Magneto-Optical Garnets
Electron Backscattered Diffraction (EBSD) reveals incomplete garnet crystalliztion where gray pixels are amorphous. This explains the results of many researchers who find that monolithically-integrated garnets underperform compared to simulated results where LPE-quality Faraday rotations are used (-4500 deg/cm at 1550nm). Most literature results for sputtered or PLD garnets are between -1000 and -2000 deg/cm at 1550nm. Our group has new crystallization techniques that yield garnets with -3700deg/cm on Si and SiO2.
